To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.

What do Lions club do?  The major commitment is serving the blind and visually impaired.  Lions are also dedicated to youth programs and meeting their community's needs.  Lions support the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) - chief mission is to allocate funds and resources to solve major humanitarian challenges worldwide.  Together, Lions and LCIF actively work to conquer blindness, provide youth with opportunities, respond to disasters and so much more!
 
What does it cost to join Lions?
There is a one-time membership fee, plus modest yearly dues.
 
What are the time commitments involved with a Lions club?  Regular meetings are held each month where protects are planned and club businesses is conducted.  Most meetings take place during a mealtime for convenience of the members.
 
Both the officers' meeting (first Monday of month) and the general membership meeting (second Monday of month) are at 6:30 pm.
 
What's New?
 
Happy New Year!  Just a note to let you know the next meeting of the Delta Lions is January 11th at 6:30 p.m.  Would like officers available to arrive 30 minutes earlier for a quick get-together on catch up business.

 Correspondence 
       Email from Juanita Webb by way of Bill Baker: There will be an event in Fairbanks called “Seeing with our Hearts” on Saturday, November 7 from 11 am to noon at the Princess Hotel Copper Room. A light lunch will be served and local speakers will talk about the Alaska Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Fairbanks. Rick and Juanita are co-hosting this event with the Center. Juanita would like to have RSVPs to plan the seating and lunch service. 
 
Old Business 
      Report on the Health Fair: Lion Ann Geise reported that the PlusOptix computer-interpreted infrared photo-screener that reads refractive error, pupil size and ocular alignment was brought from Tok to Delta and she picked it up from the Family Medical Center on Friday for the Health Fair on Saturday, October 10. The Health Fair ran from 8 am to noon. North Pole Lions Howard Rixie, Scott Leppert and a couple other NP Lions were there to help. Delta Lions Totsie Pursey, Bill Baker and Ann Geise were trained on the use of the PlusOptix and screened approximately 40 people during the Health Fair. We have plans to use the screener in January at the Delta Elementary School when we can arrange it.   
 
Motion:  Lion John Sloan made a motion that the $100 be sent to Leader Dog and $600 to the Vision Trailer.  Lion Bill Baker seconded and the motion carried. 
      
  • Lion Colleen Beck has tickets for the Governor’s Raffle at $5 each. First prize is a white gold chain necklace with white gold custom made Forget Me Not with diamond, $322.00 value; Second prize is a custom hand made Hunting Knife by FL Ownby of North Pole, $160.00 value. Tickets were available after the meeting – a Lions only raffle.
 
      
  • John reported he will check on the location of the person – if he is in Delta. Lion Doris reported the cost to Delta Lions was estimated at $110.
 
      
  • Lion Doris Fales reported that the Christmas Bazaar was canceled by the Homeland Security group due to so many other bazaars being on the same day.
 
      
  • Chairman Dan Beck reported that he is still hoping to plan a breakfast at the school, but has not contacted anyone yet.
 
 
 New Business  
    Motion:  Lion Dan Beck made a motion that the Delta Lions Club help the Delta Skating Association with the raffle.  Lion Bill Smith seconded and the motion carried. 
     
    Items of Notification: Lion Bill Smith mentioned that there will be a benefit for Dean Cummings, Jr. at the Clearwater Lodge on Sunday, November 8 from 1-3pm. 
    Lion Colleen Beck read the letter that Pat Schlichting sent with two commemorative coins and an early  (1976) Multiple District 49 pin. The letter was from someone in the Klondike Lions Club to the Delta Lions Club (Lion Don Sparks was president in 1976). It was agreed to give these items to Historian Eula Nistler so she can arrange them to be displayed at the Lions Den or perhaps at the Delta Visitor Center. 
    Lion Bill Smith presented the “new Lion” mascot to Lion Trena Smith. 
    Lion John Sloan was drawn for the free meal. 
     
    Next Meeting (Christmas Party):  Lions Colleen and Dan Beck volunteered their house for the Christmas Party and Lion Dana Mock volunteered to help with the party committee. Sunday, December 13, 3:30 pm; Chinese Gift Exchange, $20 limit. 
     
     
    Adjournment :  Lion John Sloan made a motion that the meeting adjourn.  Lion Dan Beck seconded and the motion carried.
